There are Two Aprilia Challenge Championships:-

Both are linked as a logical progression from budding teenage racer at as young as 12 years old, right through to fully developed motorcycle racer ready to take on the world.

The Aprilia Superteen Challenge

This is where the Academy of Excellence starts and it is the place where all young riders gather to pit themselves against the very best prospects of their generation. Having identical machinery makes this the fairest championship in the world, with strict cost controls and an ethos of pure sportsmanship that is an essential part of any riders armoury if they are to rise to the top of the sport with the respect of their peers.

The Superteen specification machines are lightly modified for racing purposes, including a low seat height of just 780mm, light yet tough racing bodywork and all machines run on sticky Supersport specification Dunlop Alpha 13 lightweight control tyres supplied at a tightly controlled cost. Wet tyres are also permitted and come from the same well respected manufacturer at a subsidised cost.

There are 2 for 2016, one is the Aprilia RS125cc, a lightweight (122kg), reed valve induction 2-stroke Sports Production machine producing around 32 bhp at the rear wheel. The straightforward and simple design keeps safe maintainence easy and cost effective.
The other is the Aprilia RRV450R (450cc Restricted-minimum age 13yrs old) and is another lightweight (122kg), but 4-stroke Sports Production machine, also producing around 32 bhp at the rear wheel. This machine may be de-restricted when the correct age/experience criteria is met and can then compete directly as an Aprilia RRV450GP machine as below.

The list of riders who began their Road Racing careers in the Aprilia Superteen Challenge is a veritable who's who of modern racing, starting with Casey Stoner, Cal Crutchlow, Bradley Smith, Leon Camier, Danny Webb, Tommy Hill, Danny Kent, James Ellison, Sam Lowes, Alex Lowes, Steve Brogan and a host of other National and International riders who all launched successful careers in this superb series.

The series visits 8 different circuits all with different characteristics, from the twists and turns of Cadwell Park to the swooping fast corners of Donington Park and taking in Mallory Park, Snetterton, Oulton Park, Anglesey, Brands Hatch and the incredibly rewarding linked curves of Pembrey. After two seasons in the Aprilia Superteens the riders all have a well developed knowledge of the varying challenges of every possible kind of race track.

In their first year, the riders also have the chance to compete in the Nitro Newcomers Championship which allows all novices to compete on equal footing against each other whilst still scoring championship points in the main championship. This rewards their efforts right from the outset and is a fundamental part of the Thundersport GB sporting ethos. The Newcomers are introduced to the existing riders at our pre-season induction and training day so that when they arrive for their first competitive event, they already feel part of the paddock and have experienced people to turn to for advice and assistance.

The IN Competition team truck is present at every event and has a full stock of spares, so there is no need to carry more than a basic spares kit. This service does not come at a premium price either, as all registered riders are eligible for a 25% discount off of the genuine spares. The unparalleled service and price structure provided to registered riders by IN Competition disproves the urban myth that racing spares have to come at a premium price. You won't find a better service anywhere in racing, this is a service truck with the emphasis firmly on SERVICE.

The Aprilia RRV450GP Challenge

These beautiful little twin cylinder 4-stroke GP type machines are designed as the next logical step in any young riders progress, especially those who have already gone through the first stage of the Aprilia Academy of Excellence; the Aprilia Superteen Challenge.

Here stars of the future can learn how to ride a 4-stroke machine and develop high levels of throttle control skills without the danger of unleashing the 120bhp most modern 600cc sports bikes are capable of. Due to their excellent handling and enormously high corner speeds, these razor sharp little bikes are capable of matching (and sometimes bettering) the lap times of much larger machinery.

As the majority of the field have progressed from the Superteen class, they will also be racing against familiar competition which in itself breeds a trust and confidence in those around them. Riders from other classes are also attracted by the high level of competent competition and the low running costs, due largely to them being very light on tyre wear. The lower age limit is 14 years old on a National Licence or 15 years old on a Clubman Licence, but there is no upper age limit so this class is open to older riders of any age or experience level.

These beautiful little bikes are also very light (122kg) and tough, but are enhanced with high specification Marchesini wheels, Maxton suspension, a slipper clutch, re-mapped ignition and numerous other performance details to complement the cutting edge technology contained in the compact and powerful little 450cc V-twin engine.

This 64bhp 'pocket rocket' is a true racing machine designed to be fast, nimble and very easy to maintain to a high standard. The super sticky Dunlop Alpha 13 lightweight control tyres are the very latest innovation from the market leading supplier of Moto GP tyres and are supplied at a subsidised rate to registered riders. The wet weather control tyre is also from Dunlop and is without match in the modern racing environment at the present time.
