Motors TV UK joins Freeview platform
• Subscription-free coverage in the UK for the first time
• Channel 240 on the Freeview EPG
Television’s greatest array of motor sport and motorcycle coverage will be available to more UK homes than ever before from February 27 when Motors TV joins Freeview (channel 240).
From around midday this Thursday 27th February, anyone with a compatible internet-enabled Freeview HD or Freeview+HD product (box or TV) can watch the High Speed Television Channel.
That means more motor sport fans than ever before will have access to the likes of ThundersportGB Bike Racing Championships, FIA World Rally Championship, live FIA World Endurance Championship, V8 Supercars, FIM MX World Championship and FIM Endurance World Championship coverage, in addition to those existing viewers watching via Sky and Virgin Media.
Connect TV enables broadcasters to combine content distributed on the terrestrial broadcast network alongside Internet Protocol delivered content and present it on a single channel number in the Freeview EPG #240.
Viewers access the channel like any other, by selecting it from the Freeview guide or imputing its number on the remote. The viewer is presented with a full screen picture and additional information such as programme name, start/end time and a synopsis – all displayed in a mini-overlay.
Frederic Viger, Head of Programming and Acquisitions at Motors TV, said: “We’re delighted to be joining the Freeview family through Arqiva’s Connect TV. Scores of motor sport fans will now have access to the widest and most diverse range of live, delayed and highlights programming that features both international and domestic championships. It was something that prospective viewers had been calling for and I’d like to think that we’ve responded to their wishes. The proliferation of internet-connected television made this a very attractive platform.”
Russ Armstrong, Director of Hybrid TV, Digital Platforms at Arqiva, said: “Motors TV is a brand that understands their audience and the various nuances between devices and platforms their audience engage on. Providing their content on the Freeview platform allows new viewers to discover their channel. Great content is as popular as ever and through Connect TV we’re working with broadcasters to ensure a seamless delivery of their channels.”
Syd Richard-Day, Director & Marketing at Thundersport GB said: "This is one of the most important developments in the broadcast of our product since inception of ThundersportGB in 2008 and we're delighted this comes right at the time when our Thundersport Elite and Aprilia Challenge shows are extended to 90 minutes each. All you need is a WiFi enabled TV or Freeview box and BINGO! You have MotorsTV on Freeview. Huge congratulations to Motors TV for this bold and massive step forward into what must hold the future of television!"
