For 2016 the Aprilia Challenge

will become an integrated 3 tier championship to better enable young riders to learn and progress smoothly.

At the entry level for 12 year olds, this will be utilising the Aprilia RS125 2-stroke machine that has served the series very well for almost 2 decades now. Riders may elect to use this machine right up to the age of 19 years old (on the 1st March of the relevant year) should they so wish and this will form the basis of the Aprilia Superteen Challenge.

Once a rider reaches the age of 13 years old, the new Aprilia RRV450R becomes an option – the RRV450R is a restricted version of the tremendously successful RRV450GP with a power output of 32bhp at the rear wheel – and this will also be eligible to contest the Aprilia Superteen Challenge alongside the existing RS125. Riders may compete on this machine in the Aprilia Superteen Challenge until the age of 21 years.

At the age of 14 years old – provided the rider has attained an ACU National Road Race Licence – riders may enter the Aprilia RRV450GP Challenge on an unrestricted RRV450GP machine. This applies to Novice & Clubman Licence holders from the age of 15 years onwards as well. Machines that were supplied by IN Competition as restricted RRV450R models can also then be converted to full power RRV450GP specification at the IN Competition workshops. There are no upper age limits on the Aprilia RRV450GP Challenge.

All Aprilia Challenge classes will run on the NEW DUNLOP control tyres specifically imported for this championship – designated Dunlop Alpha-13 in dry conditions and Dunlop KR in wet conditions. Dunlop graphics must be carried on machines in the approved locations.

Whilst this is merely an update of tyre model for the Aprilia Superteen Championship, it is a complete change for the Aprilia RRV450GP Challenge and signals the end of the Avon Tyres control tyre supply for this class and at the same time sees a return to Dunlop tyres for the first time since 2011. We are confident that both the riders and our new tyre partners will find the transition both seamless and beneficial. We welcome Dunlop to the championship.

Tyres for the RS125 2-strokes will be priced at £179 including VAT & fitting for both wet and dry options.

Tyres for the Aprilia RRV450R and RRV450GP will be priced at £199 including VAT & fitting for both wet and dry options.

Mark Wright at HMT Racing (Holbeach Motorcycle Tyres) will continue as the nominated supplier.

For the avoidance of doubt, 2015 specification Avon tyres may be used for the test day and Saturday of the first 2016 event in order to allow riders to utilise existing stock. From day 2 of the first event in 2016 (Brands Hatch Sunday 6th March) the new Dunlop control tyres must be used in all Aprilia Challenge races.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Avon Motorsport for their support and assistance during the course of the 2015 Championship season. We are pleased to confirm that our excellent relationship with Avon Tyres will continue as we have just agreed terms for them to become our title sponsor for the Avon Tyres Supertwins Championship, which is an open tyre serieswhere any make of road legal tyre may be used.
