Dunlop Alpha 13 tyre is chosen for three classes in ThundersportGB from 2016
Aprilia Superteen Challenge AND Aprilia RRV450GP Challenge both to benefit from new control tyre
Dunlop and ThundersportGB are proud to officially announce their increased involvement with Thundersport GB in 2016 after a hugely successful public display at the recent Motorcycle Live show at Birmingham NEC, the aforementioned three classes of the popular ThundersportGB will be racing on the new Alpha 13 tyre. They will all be shod with the impressive new brand of rubber to help take them to victory in the 2016 season. This increases the leading tyre brand’s involvement in this championship building on the 2015 season.
The famous Aprilia Superteen Challenge (including the new Aprilia 450R RS125 replacement) and Aprilia RRV450GP will race on Dunlops new Alpha 13 treaded and wet tyres from now onward.
Chosen after rigorous testing to ensure performance, confidence, feedback, handling ability and longevity was at the highest level, Dunlops Alpha 13 surpassed all expectations, with all participating teams remarking on the tyres confidence inspiring feedback, predictable handling characteristics and impressive wear rates.
Due to the differing performance levels of the three classes, the new Dunlop Alpha 13 will be faced with a number of challenges across the 2016 season. These include dealing with some of the inexperience of younger riders in the Aprilia Superteen Challenge verses delivering top level race pace to riders in the Aprilia RRV450GP challenge.
This is achieved through the tyre’s Multi Tread technology which optimises grip and wear and the Carcass Tension System which delivers improved suspension capabilities and great rider feedback. New compounds in this tyre also help to enhance grip to ensure pace throughout a race distance.
Dunlop will work closely with their partner Holbeach Motorcycle Tyres to service their riders in the championship. Holbeach has been ThundersportGB’s long established paddock service provider.
Continuing its long term relationship with Aprilia and IN Competition (the Superteen series has been partnered by Dunlop for over 19 years, the longest and most successful running Motorcycle & Tyre brand race partnership in the world), Dunlop is the ideal choice for this and the next two steps in the 3 tier ‘Aprilia Challenge’, the RRV450’R’ and RRV450’GP’ classes, both using the beautifully engineered and prepared Aprilia RRV450GP machines from Ian Newtons IN Competition workshops.
The featherweight 125’s in the Superteens have been responsible for launching the careers of a huge list of riders (Sam & Alex Lowes, Danny Webb, Cal Crutchlow, Tom Sykes, Chaz Davies, Leon Camier, Tommy Hill, Bradley Smith and none other than Casey Stoner). These entry level machines, aimed at young and in some cases inexperienced riders, need a tyre that is safe, predictable and confidence building. Dunlop’s Alpha 13 is all of these and more.
The ultra lightweight RRV450R’s are the next step for the aforementioned youngsters, a machine cleverly restricted to allow its use to run alongside the 125’s thus giving motorcycle racing's future stars a chance to get a feel for a ‘bigger engined’ bike whilst racing in the slightly more sedate pace of the smaller capacity class. Again this requires a tyre that allows safe progression in pace, yet still attains impressive longevity, a must as riders and teams grow.
The top step in the ‘Aprilia Challenge’, the RRV450 ‘GP’, uses the full blown grunt from the unrestricted V-Twins, the ideal place to fully release a riders potential and show how a tiered approach to racing really does bring on a riders talent. Dunlops Alpha 13 can offer top level race pace and ability to race with a tyre that is progressive, predictable, confidence inspiring and long lasting.
Dunlop's Alpha 13 is yet again a perfect choice for this multi skill level class. With limited ground clearance and modest power outputs, these racers need to take advantage of any and every bit of grip and sure-footedness they can grab a handful of throttle to gain. The Alpha 13 is a superb answer for these requirements.
All of Dunlops range of racing tyres, including the Alpha 13’s (for the above mentioned classes and many others incl Stocktwins, Supertwins and Golden Era Steelsport and Formula 400) and the top level treaded offerings, D212 & slicks (KR106&108’s) for the majority of the open classes, are all available via Mark Wright and his team at HMT Racing (Holbeach Motorcycle Tyres), ThundersportGB’s long established paddock service provider.

GOOD YEAR - DUNLOP UK Business Development Manager Mike Gent said:
“After many years of involvement in ThundersportGB, we are very proud to be chosen for these three classes, all of which are very demanding. Dunlop has been involved with ThundersportGB since its inception in 2008, winning many of its titles along the way. To have the opportunity to increase our involvement seemed a natural progression for us. ThundersportGB organisers, including series coordinators from IN Competition, have created the ideal championship for every level of racer; novice, established and lap record pace riders, with a paddock that is both professional and enjoyable, they’re a great team to work with. The new Alpha 13 tyre is robust and will give the right level of performance across all three classes. 2016 is an exciting evolution for our growing relationship with ThundersportGB, its riders and teams, and we look forward to sharing their experiences with them through the season. ThundersportGB directors Dave Stewart and 'Syd' Richard-Day have created the ideal championship for every level of racer, novice, established and lap record pace riders, with a paddock that is both professional and enjoyable. Working with service providers such as Mark Wright of HMT allows us to provide this national championship of over 330 riders in world class style and we're confident our product range is the ideal choice for ThundersportGB.
We would like to wish Dave, Bernadette, Jan, Syd, Ian, Mark, all the racers and teams (inluding their families, friends and supporters) a Happy Christmas and a safe, fast and enjoyable 2016. See you all next year!”
